Bearded dragons, come from Australia. Many reptiles, tend to change color when they become colder or hotter.
It can get very cold in Australia. They love to climb up high on branches to get to the dew on the leaves and get closer to warmth.
When they are too warm they will burrow under ground.
Beardies are diurnal (opposed to nocturnal), and omnivores. Bearded dragons not only like to eat crickets they also, enjoy vegetables and fruits like: Tomatoes, Strawberries, Collard greens.
When they grow to adult size, they will eat mice but they also like to eat meal worms and gross roaches.
A bearded dragon will flare out their beard when threatened or territorial.
Dragon's bodies have a flatten appearance which becomes even more pronounced if alarmed.
They have spikes located on the throat, sides of the head, and on the sides of their bodies. Their head is wedge shaped, and the tail is almost as long as their body.
It is difficult to distinguish females from males among hatch lings and juveniles. Bearded dragons become sexually mature between 8 and 18 months.
When they are adults their sexual differences become a lot more apparent.
Males have larger heads along with darker, and larger beards. You can also look at their femoral pores. Femoral pores are glands found on the inside of the thighs of certain lizards and amphibians.
A bearded dragon's life span is about 10 years. Females can lay up to 20 eggs in a single clutch.
After the female lays her eggs they will hatch 55-75 days later. Sometimes even when a female isn't mated they still lay eggs.
