-*-Russian Tortoise-*-
One of the reptiles that I will be talking about today is the Russian Tortoise.
The Russian Tortoise is referred to by many names.
Originates from Central Asia and Afghanistan.
They are related to turtles and the terrapin. The terrapin is a salt marsh turtle who only lives in brackish water.
They usually feed on vegetation and rarely will eat fruits.
The are pretty hardy and small about 4 to 9 inches.
These tortoises are adapted to handle extreme heat and extreme cold. During the winter they hibernate from October to March.
Hibernation lasts for about 3 to 5 months.
Eggs hatch in about 77 days.
The incubation temperature has to be between 86 and 95 degrees.
When summer comes along, they bury themselves to withstand the sun.
Russian Tortoises can have a life span of about 50 to 80 years.
